몇년 전에 있었던 일이다. 산아제한 계몽단체의 대변인이 인도의
농촌지역을 돌아다니면서 콘돔을 무더기로 나누어 주고는 빗자루에
콘돔을 끼워놓고 그 사용법을 설명했다.

그런데 그 이듬해에 그 지방에 다시 가보니 출산율은 조금도 줄지
않고 있었다. 알아보니 그곳 사람들은 그의 말을 곧이 곧대로 받아
들여 성행위를 할 적마다 빗자루에 콘돔을 끼위놓고 했다는 것이다.

A spokesman for a birth control group went through the rural
villages of India several years ago, handing out large supplies
of rubber condoms, explaining how they worked with the aid of
a broomstick.

Next year he returned to find as many new babies as ever. The
villagers had taken him at his word, and carefully covered the
broomstick before every act of intercourse.
